Following Chlorine explosion at a water treatment plant in Jos the Plateau State Capital, which killed 8 persons and left over 100 persons hospitalized, Governor Simon Lalong, said the State Government will set up an independent committee to investigate the cause of the chlorine explosion.
Lalong disclosed this on Monday, when he visited the scene of the incident.
He said the state committee will be different from the one ordered by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The Governor said it was unfortunate that the incident happened just few weeks after bomb blasts killed many People in the state.
Lalong who sympathized with the families of those who lost their lives and other victims who are receiving treatments, assured them that Government will settle their hospital bills.
He frowned at the situation where people build on water pipes, saying, “it was wrong for people to build on pipes around the area,” which will be one of the terms of reference of the committee.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, State Ministry of Water Resources, Mrs. Hannatu Dantong, assured residents that the water from the Water Board will be safe for consumption in the State.
It was gathered that the incident occurred late Friday night, while residents were already sleeping.
