Nigeria has won her first medal in the ongoing 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland through Weightlifting.

Nigerian lifter Nkechi Opara won the bronze medal in the Women’s 48kg category, on Thursday, to set the pace for Nigeria at the tournament. Opara scored 70 in snatch, 92 in clean and jerk for total 162 points to come behind Indian duo Sanjita Chanu, who won the gold with 173 points, and Saikhom Mirabai, winning silver with 170 points.

In other news, Nigeria’s female team to the Commonwealth Games on Thursday beat their Kenyan counterparts in the first Table Tennis action in the games.
