The Secretary-General-designate, António Guterres, announced the appointment of Nigeria’s current Minister of Environment, Amina J. Mohammed as his Deputy Secretary-General.
The statement issued through the spokesman of the Secretary-General, Mr Stephane Dujarric on Thursday said Maria Luiza Ribeiro Viotti of Brazil will be appointed as his Chef de Cabinet. Guterres also intends to create the position of Special Advisor on Policy, and to appoint Kyung-wha Kang of the Republic of Korea to that new role.

“I am happy to count on the efforts of these three highly competent women from different regions of the world. These appointments are the foundations of my team, which I will continue to build, respecting my pledges on gender parity and geographical diversity.” said Guterres.

Born in Kaduna State on June 27, 1961, to a British mother and Nigerian father, Amina Mohammed served as as the Special Adviser to outgoing UN-Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon on Post-2015 development planning. She has six children and hails from Gombe Local Government Area of Gombe State.
