Jose Mourinho is the perfect man to take over at Manchester United, according to one of his former stars.

The former Chelsea manager has told friends that his switch to Old Trafford, in turn replacing Louis van Gaal, is a ‘done deal’.

And Thiago Motta – part of Mourinho’s all-conquering Inter Milan side in 2010 – believes Ed Woodward has this impending appointment spot on.

The midfielder lifted the Treble under Mourinho and insists the Portuguese can bring back the glory days at Old Trafford.

‘It takes a brave coach to go there now, but Jose is brave enough,’ said Motta.

‘For the last three seasons Manchester United haven’t been the Manchester United people are used to.

‘I know there would be pressure on Jose to get United back winning trophies, but that will not bother him.’

There will remain questions marks over Mourinho’s style of management in Manchester – reasons why he was not handed the job when Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.

Motta, however, does not see anything fazing the 53-year-old.

‘In my experience Jose doesn’t feel pressure – he has such belief in his abilities,’ he added.

‘The Jose that you see in interviews is also the Jose the players see, he really is that confident in himself.’
